Helping Emptor’s 100% remote Workforce reach their full potential

Helping Emptor’s 100% remote Workforce reach their full potential

“Before we were using Google Workspace, Slack, Confluence, Jira and Trello, all separately. Happeo bridges this all together with a really powerful search engine that works across content in the platform itself, but also in Google Workspace. It's our source of truth. If you need any file, sheet, a person or anything else – go into Happeo, look for it and it will be there.”

Empowering flexibility for one of the world's most innovative workforces

Emptor is a fast-growing, 100% remote company with 50 employees across South America, Africa, and the United States. They create automated background checks to verify the identity of new hires across South America. They’ve been in business since 2016 and have large clients such as Cornershop, Uber and CABIFY.

Tech-oriented companies that are looking to grow know that Emptor is their first stop – and for good reason. They have a competitive advantage in the War for Talent – as a remote company, they have access to the best people from all over the globe. The catch? They’re extremely passionate and picky about the people they hire. A completely remote company requires a lot of self-management and proactive Internal Communications.

That’s why Emptor chose Happeo.

A place to scale culture and processes

Emptor runs a different race. Their pace – blistering. Their ability to adapt – unmatched. Any Emptorite with a good idea can get it approved by top management and rolled out within a week. Their access to global talent, and lean set-up, signals a clear competitive advantage, but there is risk.

Moving fast means communicating fast, and Emptor lacked a centralized place to do that. The result? Information silos scattered across Drive, Documents, PDFs, Jira, Slack and more. Emptor needed a centralized place for their communications – one that is as fast and adaptable as they are.

Our champions created our Pages content

“We implemented Happeo in just one month – which is very fast. We roped in our leadership team and created communication strategies from the moment we decided to go forward with Happeo. We had good relationships with our key teams, so we quickly had champions to create content in Pages. Naturally, the guidance of Happeo’s Customer Success team was crucial. If we ever had questions, their replies would be hours or even minutes away.”

Centralized communications platform

“Another thing that needed to change was the perception of a centralized communications platform. It shouldn’t be boring, because Emptor isn’t boring. It has to look great, and be completely brand-aligned – because that visual differentiation is a compelling reason for people to drop their old solutions and move to the new.”

Confluence for tech, Happeo for comms, Slack for a quick chat

“80% of the organization stopped using Confluence now that we have Happeo. The problem with Confluence is that it acts as a repository for technical information, but it’s not user friendly. Beyond the tech-team, our people just didn’t use it – and believe me, we tried. It’s just not meant to be a communication tool. An obvious advantage to Happeo is its Channels. Even if you use Confluence for your Internal Communications, it’s one-way only and not engaging at all.

Since Happeo brings Enterprise Social Networking (ESN) under the same roof as its intranet and collaboration capabilities, even static information becomes engaging. Case in point: our investors are in our Happeo platform, and they never would have been in our disparate environment with Confluence. Why? Because they love seeing all our information in a structured, visually appealing way.

Next to that, we also use Slack, but our needs for that have changed. We have many channels in Slack, which was OK in the beginning, but it’s not anymore. It’s great for a quick chat, but you forget information too quickly and it’s not organized. To stay up-to-date, employees have to be ‘always on’ – if you tune out, you miss out. That goes against our remote-communication needs, which rely almost entirely on asynchronous methods.

Our product team now wants an integration with Jira, and that would make Confluence completely obsolete. From a Project Management standpoint, Product organizes their work in Jira, but the rest of Emptor uses Trello in an Agile method, with Kanban. Lastly, our leadership loves data. In Slack and Confluence, we have no idea if someone read something or what the engagement was, but in Happeo we can see this easily, and visually, in the Analytics panel. Again, both Slack and Confluence have their purpose and their use-case within Emptor, but Happeo is the place for asynchronous Internal Communications

Easy to find, fast to move

“As a remote company, we don’t have physical places to store information. Everything is stored across Google Workspace for operational and commercial use, and Jira for product use. That caused a lot of problems, because it’s hard to find through Confluence, and Google Workspace itself is quite disparate. It’s not exactly a set of interconnected apps. Happeo bridges this all together with a really powerful search engine that works across content in the platform itself, but also in Google Workspace. It’s our source of truth. If you need any file, sheet, a person or anything else – go into Happeo, look for it and it will be there.”

Creating a happy digital culture

“Being physically far away from us is of course a challenge. To combat that, we organize a lot of virtual get-togethers to create bonding moments. PMO has chocolate Mondays, Operations has ice-cream Fridays, Engineering has Open Hangout chats, we have a video-game group and the list goes on.

We also do a monthly town hall which talks about key projects and business results. It’s important to do this and supplement it with our natural asynchronous-communication methods. Variety is the spice of life, and Happeo hosts a lot of these virtual get-togethers with its Calendar integration.

We also use Happeo to host our wellness program. We have our own psychologist and through Happeo see all availability to join the wellness sessions. Emptor pays for that, because mental health is important to us

As part of the same program, you can also receive a nutritional session. The talent & culture team also talks about soft skills – working in times of a pandemic, workplace conflicts, working with children around you, that stuff. We’re really equipping people with the ability to reach their full potential when they work remotely, and Happeo helps us greatly with that.

The features that changed the game for Emptor

  • Google Workspace integration, to create a single source of truth

  • Easy-to-build Pages that act as Emptor’s knowledge base

  • User-friendly construction that makes people want to use Happeo, including investors

  • Analytics that evaluate the effectiveness of their Internal Communications

Emptor leverages Happeo for the following business outcome

  • Equipping people with the tools to make the most out of remote work

  • Increasing the spread and visibility of knowledge within the company

  • Bringing investors closer to the business

  • Increasing employee retention

"Going forward, we will be creating pages and leveraging Happeo's iFrame capabilities to host all project management in the platform, including Trello boards. This will leverage its full potential by creating a centralized place for communication and collaboration. When you grow you need a strong structure. That's what Happeo provides."
